***CALLING ALL FOODIE BROWNCOATS***

This week on Nerdie Foodie, we are going to check out what you can make if you ever have your very own shindig! There weren’t many recipes out there specifically for Firefly (or Serenity), so these are just some ideas that you can use to have your very own Firefly/Serenity party.

Strawberries (and Mangoes)

The easiest thing ever. Preferably fresh, but if you’re in a pinch and it’s not the season for fresh strawberries, frozen strawberries that have been defrosted would also work. Great as a snack or appetizer and Kaylee approved! Same goes for the mangoes because they are a great combo!

Fruity Oaty Bars

You can use your favourite go-to granola bar recipe that has oats and fruit bits in it. If not, here are a few recipes to try out! First up, Nicole shares with us her version of Fruity Oaty bars on blog called Tikkido. It’s packed with a ton of fruit and protein! Check out the recipe here!

Over at Kitchen Overlord, there was a contest over which person had the better Fruity Oaty bar recipe. Okay, it was more of a dual than a contest…maybe. The first recipe, comes from Evin Cooper whose recipe is inspired by the Fruity Oaty bar is in loaf form instead. It actually looks deliciously like banana bread! Check out the recipe here!

The second recipe in the Kitchen Overlord Fruity Oaty battle is from Jennifer Imhoff-Dousharm. Her Fruity Oaty bar recipe has an oatmeal base and top and a strawberry filling! This is some serious business y’all, there’s a strawberry filling in the centre. Check out the recipe here!

Bao

Now, I have to add Chinese Bao. There are Chinese influences everywhere in the Verse. From the writing to language and the food, so it is only fitting. Plus, it’s yummy carbs! Now, if you have a family recipe, go ahead and use that. Otherwise, here is a video from Malaysian Chinese Kitchen where Linda shows us how to make the traditional Char Siu Bao (also known as steamed barbeque pork buns).

For a modern take on the traditional steamed pork buns, the guys over at SORTEDfood show us their version below! These buns are for those who like to have a little kick of flavour in their food.

And for those who are Celiac or cannot eat gluten, Andrea Nguyen from Viet World Kitchen, shares her gluten free steamed bun recipe here!

Wife Soup

If you have been ordering the Firefly crates from Loot Crate, then this recipe will be no surprise to you. The official recipe for Wife Soup, courtesy of the mini magazine, The Signal. This recipe is a hearty soup and something you’d want to eat as the weather gets colder. You just have to make sure that Jayne doesn’t get to the soup before you do. Click on the photo below for the ingredients and recipe!

Ice Planets

And how can we forget the delectable Ice Planet treats? When River said it’s a problematic dessert…she has a valid point. First there’s the melting factor from the ice cream, keeping the ball shape together when it freezes, etc. Luckily the peeps over at Nerdy Recipes have figured out most of the engineering to get your ice planets into shape! They also give you pointers on making other planets besides the Ice Planets.  Check out the recipe (and engineering) here!

Mudder’s Milk

Geek & Sundry’s Mitch Hutts from Critical Hits shows us his alcoholic version of Mudder’s Milk. Check out the video below!

Now if you’re not crazy about trying Mitch’s Mudder’s Milk drink, Darla from Bakingdom shares with us her recipe for Mudder’s Milk Chocolate Cupcakes! Check out the recipe here!

Of course, I can’t forget the official recipe of Mudder’s Milk also found in the mini magazine, The Signal (thanks Loot Crate!). The ingredients listed doesn’t actually sound too bad. It’s more of a protein shake most people drink these days when they’re working out at the gym or at home. Click on the photo below for the ingredients. All you need to do is throw all of the ingredients into a blender and blitz the heck out of the drink!

Finally, we can’t forget that chocolate cake. The super chocolate-y cake (although I’m not sure how it would taste with protein powder…). But in any case, all it takes is your favourite chocolate cake recipe and add as much chocolate frosting on it as possible! Go crazy, it doesn’t have to look perfect. It would be a great way to tie in everything together. If you need a chocolate cake recipe, check out Beth Le Manach’s (Entertaining with Beth) dark chocolate cake recipe below!

And there you have it, a shindig worthy of the Verse!

‘Til next time,

Stay nerdalicious!
